Shore is an American photographer known for his images of banal scenes and objects in the United States, and for his pioneering use of color in art photography. At a time when ‘art photography’ was predominantly black and white, Shore embarked on a series of road trips across the United States photographing the streets and towns in color, first using a 35mm hand-held camera and finally settling on the square 8×10 inch format. The resulting format and colour treatment has had a profound influence on popular use of filters and format on the likes of Instagram.
